A view of the New York skyline from Hunter's Point South

Citibike coming soon to Hunters Point South

Citibike has announced that it will be coming soon to Hunters Point including Hunter's Point South as part of its expansion into the Long Island City neighborhood in the borough of Queens. The expansion, announced earlier today by New York mayor Bill de Blasio, Department of Transportation Commissioner, Polly Trottenberg and Motivate CEO Jay Walder, will include the establishment of 12 new stations in Queens by the end of 2015.

The new station at Hunter's Point South will be set up at Center Boulevard and Borden Avenue near the East River Ferry Terminal on the eastern side of the Oval at Hunter's Point South Park.

Many residents of the area were quick to herald the imminent arrival of the bike share, with one person explaining that in addition to the healthy and fun related benefits that the bikes would bring, they would also legitimately serve as an additional mode of transportation in one of NYC's fastest growing neighborhoods. Within recent months, commuters in the Hunter's Point neighborhood have been experiencing nightmarish train service on the 7 line.

The expansion of the bike share will begin sometime in the month of August 2015.
